Thanks for the replies everyone. That will give us a good starting point to do some research. Before I put the question out there...my wife and I were leaning towards the Roswell area. We will check out the east Cobb area, that river can limit your commute options if I'm not mistaken.

Music and marching band is a big part of my girls' life. Currently our oldest participates in a large marching band of over 250 kids. It's the largest band in the state of Michigan. Most similar sized schools in Michigan are lucky to get 75-100 kids to participate in band. This high school has about 1350 kids.

We do not mind a fixer upper in a nice neighborhood...we did that previously. In fact, we are now remodeling our 6 year old house to get ready for the possible move.

We will not look into Peachtree City...it's one of the areas we checked out in case the job is located on the south part of town.

I believe Lassiter high has a great music program and marching band. Maybe Rainy can weigh in on this.

You should get into Sandy Springs if you can. It sounds perfect for your commute (MARTA nearby) and schooling needs. Even if you have to downsize on the house a bit, you'll probably find it worth it. 325 is not too shabby of a budget. True, that money would go further in Cobb county, but you'd be taking on a longer commute if you establish yourselves up there.

Get yourself a good knowledgeable Realtor and you won't have all these questions!

With the thorough list of requirements and information you have provided a good Realtor could immediately present you with a bunch of options worth considering.

There are some mega-HS bands still around in the N Atlanta area.

I can help out with the Realtor search if need. I have a very good family friend that specializes in the area.

I think you will be happy with Roswell.

Default school districts

national web site for states and school statistics and diversity. You will not get that info from realtor so better check yourself. Zip code search, name of school search, etc. Can not remember the name just google school information and statistics.

Good Luck

How is the commute from Mountain Park area (near Brookfield West Golf Course) to Newell Rubbermaid in Sandy Springs? Google Maps said the drive time would be around 26 minutes over 15 miles. I'm going to assume that's outside of peak hours.
