Great news, everyone!

The developers behind the six-block “12th & Midtown” project along Peachtree say they have a commitment from an undisclosed equity partner and a lender. MetLife and Canyon-Johnson Urban Funds are equity partners on other components of 12th & Midtown. They plan to break ground on the 314-unit tower by this fall.

These are apartments, so I doubt there will be many complaints. For one, the lowest habitable floors appear to be 5+ stories of the ground, which helps a lot. Also, typically apartment-dwellers are younger, have fewer kids, and are more interested in being "close to the action". (The cynic in me adds: "and then they move to the suburbs".)

Either way, the plans are great. See them here:

Plans for Upscale Apartment Tower at 12th & Midtown - Midtown, GA Patch

It will be a nice midsize tower than will contribute significantly to the look and feel of the area. It will add a good amount of foot traffic to an already bustling area. It's just two blocks from a MARTA station.

I just really hope it actually gets off the ground.

Default Café Intermezzo to Open at 1010 Midtown

More Good News for 12th and Midtown:

Quote:
Located at 1018 Peachtree Street in the 1010 Midtown Condominum building of the 12th and Midtown development, Café Intermezzo will be located between Bank of America and the entrance to the condos.

The midtown location will look and feel like the Dunwoody location and is slated to open April, 2012.

It sounds like the embers of construction are still glowing in Atlanta. In addition to this new tower at 12th Street, the newspaper reported that Prospect Park is back on the table. And then there's the Oliver McMillan project in Buckhead, and a large midrise project on Pharr Road. Town Brookhaven is apparently filling up, and I've seen a good bit of construction in the townhouse/single family home market as well.

Lets not forget the "dual-branded" Hilton Hotel and the possibility of the Intercontinental (and etc etc). It looks like Atlanta is gearing up to go to the next level with all of this new construction that's about to start, along with the Beltline and the streetcar project. When the transit components are put into place (hopefully the 2012 transit vote passes), Atlanta is really going to be something else by the end of this decade. Lets hope that this momentum gather steam.
