The only thing inflated around here is your vivid imagination.

Most cities in the U.S. would kill for that kind of significance.

The problem is that Atlanta doesn't fully embrace it or play it up like it should.
I didn't say it wasn't significant but compared with many other areas it's just not all that much and I agree that this city does a poor job of exploiting that history. The fact is the city probably would like to keep a lot of its pre-civil rights movement history under wraps. Also, the civil rights era wasn't really all that long ago and, like it or not, doesn't have the flashy appeal of say Revolutionary war era history.

Atlanta isn't alone in this predicament. It's just a young city compared to places like New Orleans, Boston, DC, or New York. What little history I know of Dallas is pretty boring.

Then you add a couple more million in visitors / tourists (not to mention the snow birds that spend portions of the year here). Again, you can attack the area as much as you want, I don't really care. But if you are ever in town, here is a list of some of our eateries Southwest Florida Dining-Restaurants in Naples, Fort Myers, Sanibel, Captiva, Bonita Springs & Marco Island from Southwest Florida Traveler
Then lets not downplay one of THE hottest restaurant scenes in the entire country by stating that Atlanta's dining scene is dominated by Applebee's and Ruby Tuesday.

And if you are ever in town again, I suggest you take a look at this before making such ridiculous claims. Atlanta Restaurants | Urbanspoon

I personally think most of Atlanta area is transient. Yes, I would settle here for the job opportunities and other things that are offered here.

I would put my roots here despite the prevalence of crappy fast-food chains and crime issues.

There is more to like here than to dislike.

god bless you. thank you for understanding my stuggle. Everyday I wake up I wish I was in Miami. But anyways my original comment about the poster that stated something was missing in atlanta.... it certaintly isn't the shortage of chain resturants (which is true- just one negative (or positive) aspect of living in the atlanta area). I don't know why that got spun into talking about SWFL. For that, i apolgoize.

Looking over Applebee's and Ruby Tuesday's websites, I see exactly zero outlets of those two restaurant chains located within the city limits. There are two Applebee's close enough to have Atlanta mailing addresses, but they appear to be outside of the city limits.

With all due respect, folks who claim Atlanta doesn't have a fascinating and rich history simply aren't paying much attention. Spend a few days at the Atlanta History Center to get your bearings, and then start exploring. And reading. There are literally thousands of books, articles and papers regarding our town's history. There are extremely extensive collections at Emory, Tech, AUC, Georgia State, and at major libraries like AFPL Downtown and on Auburn Avenue, as well as scores of other places.

If you start checking things out, you'll be blown away.
