tomno00 - There is no shortage of chain restaurants in ANY major metro area of this country. Atlanta is no exception to this, but knowledgable well traveled people also know our restaurant scene is not lacking here - at all.

I don't know why that got spun into talking about SWFL. For that, i apolgoize.
i believe it was the part about an applebees and ruby tuesdays making up the fine dining in Atlanta which has no basis behind it whatsoever and then comparing it to sw fl which sw fl has no business being brought up when your referring to real cities.

John -
I’m not going to doubt that there are lovely and unique privately owned restaurants in the Atlanta area. However, the Atlanta area is HUGE (in terms of area) and it still continues to sprawl outwards. So saying there are some nice restaurants here or some hippie and cool places over there doesn’t really help unless you live in that particular area. The metro Atlanta area itself is the least densely populated metro area in the country. It’s the biggest thing I dislike about Atlanta – sprawl and limited connectivity between the whole metro area. And that's why I could care less about population figures in Atlanta. I'd be more interested in seeing density figures - higher density usually translates to better quality cities (in my opinion)

Also, the civil rights era wasn't really all that long ago and, like it or not, doesn't have the flashy appeal of say Revolutionary war era history.

Atlanta isn't alone in this predicament. It's just a young city compared to places like New Orleans, Boston, DC, or New York. What little history I know of Dallas is pretty boring.
Compared to those yeah but compared to most metros NO!! it doesnt lack..

There are extremely extensive collections at Emory, Tech, AUC, Georgia State, and at major libraries like AFPL Downtown and on Auburn Avenue, as well as scores of other places.

If you start checking things out, you'll be blown away.

The problem is they wanna see it with there eyes. In DC you can literally see washington monument and Lincoln center and see the history etc. I guess since its not visible to the eye to some there is none.. When I go to Philly I dont think about all the history there or the liberty bell etc. I usually first recognize the Dirth and fealth everywhere..

And I was born and raised in the atlanta area. Refer to my previous post. Maybe there are more local eateries in atl, but the SWFL area wins the local eatery per square mile pretty easily

and again... I really could care less about SWFL. I dont plan on being here too much longer.

Well, you can start by improving your spelling, punctuation and grammar. But I guess that's par for the course when Georgia consistently ranks at the bottom of all states when it comes to education.

"Dirth and fealth"? Your spelling is almost as bad as Bizurko's. Oh, wait a minute. Could it be? Hmmm?
