Hey,

I'm moving to Midtown ATL in June and was hoping to get some feedback on the neighborhood. I will be living within 4 blocks of Piedmont Park (have a dog) near the midtown mile. Are there things that I should look out for? things to do? things not to do? Safety concerns? I've been around the area during the day when I was first searching for the apartment so I have a relatively idea what the area looks like.

That being said I look forward to learning from other posters on this forum.

Thanks in advance!

You really can't go wrong in Midtown.

Don't leave anything valuable in your car on the street or it WILL get stolen at night sooner or later--that's the main thing to look out for.

There are a large number of good restaurants within walking distance of you. Flying Biscuit (southern-style food & breakfast), Gilbert's (Mediterranean), Papi's (Cuban), TOP FLR (late night, great cocktails), and Cypress Street Pint & Plate (Pub food, good beer selection) are just a few of the great options nearby.

I think you'll really enjoy Midtown. Good to be close to the park for both you and your pup. They have a good off leash park for dogs. The previous post is spot on. Having lived in Midtown for twenty years the only crime my family has personally experienced has been theft from an auto when my daughter left her iPod in plain view. Enjoy - you've picked a good neighborhood!

The Midtown Shopping Center has a number of shops and restaurants, movie theater, etc

Trader Joe's is there. You can hook your dog up outside, IIRC, they have water dishes. Rita's frozen custard is there, too. Very tasty.

Woody's for philly cheesesteaks.

midtown is a very diverse/family friendly area

If you're not homosexual, you might find midtown to be quite "happy" during Labor day weekend

I've lived in Midtown for a year and have never felt unsafe. It's nice to be able to walk to the park, a bar, restaurant, or MARTA. My car is in a secure garage (I don't park on the street) so I don't know but I would imagine like any city, don't leave stuff in your car that people can see, etc. Always good to hear about more people moving to Midtown.

You'll love Midtown and the surrounding areas. We've been here a year as well and love the proximity to everything. I can't imagine another major metro area where you could afford to live this close into the city.

WannaBeinBoston - With a post like that, I'd think you'd change your screen name to GladToBeInAtlanta!

AnsleyPark, I'm about to change my screen name to FloatAwayCafe pretty soon. Wow is that place good. Haven't had a bad meal in midtown yet, except for perhaps Doc Chey. I was expecting more I guess.

I have lived in Midtown for a year, like everyone else said leave nothing of value in your car- alot of druggies that break in-that includes your change holder open, sweatshirts, etc. I have heard of windows being broken for 50 cents in the cup holder. Other than that, the normal at night things in a big city.
