Several of my co-workers who use MARTA daily were very upset at the potential of a fare increase.

Kinda rough, but still less inflation than the cost of driving has suffered in the last couple years.

Here's my "grand bargain":

- They get to raise fares $.50
- We get Red line rail service to the airport back until 9PM

I hate taking MARTA after 7 PM nowadays because I don't plan ahead and I know I might be stuck waiting for 20 minutes for a train. If I'm trying to get from Decatur back to Midtown after 7 it can easily take an hour!

At least try to give us a bit more value for our fares if you're going to raise them.

Great points "testa". I too hope this fare increase includes improved and expanded service, because I have also had to wait (at Lindbergh) for sometimes well over twenty minutes for a North Springs train.

It does suck, but it's sadly the state of affairs. I'm just happy my company pays the full cost of my MARTA fare each month.

Energy prices are going up. It costs more to drive, and it has always cost more to operate MARTA than what was charged. Good move to bring the fare more in line with operating costs.

I use the MARTA once or twice a month when I fly out of ATL. It's still a bargain if it does go up to $2.50.

Monthly passes too damn high of a jump. I think $75 or $80 would have been fair.

That is INSANE!

$95 for a monthly MARTA pass?!

I really feel sorry for folks who have no other option.

MARTA sure does know when to time these sorts of things, don't they?

I just can't wrap my head around paying the same amount to ride MARTA as the MTA. It just doesn't seem right.

While I fully think there needs to be changes in MARTA management (and security), I don't think the fare is unreasonable - and for the record, I hardly make tons of money, myself. But if you take into account even a very base-level car's monthly payment, insurance, gas, maintenance/upkeep, etc... the fares are FAR FAR cheaper than that. Those who are on "poverty level" incomes can get reduced fares, and/or MARTA can still offer them.
