That's why I said it's mainly an indicator. On top of that, there are several times more visitors, temporary residents, people waiting to gain permanent status, and so forth, but those stats are nowhere near as well-kept. Plus, 500 people per year means 5,000 per decade, plus their offspring. Over years, all of these different groups contribute to a community of tens of thousands.

By the same source, Atlanta MSA had 1,924 Mexicans gain legal status over the same time period, just to put it in perspective.

Of course, what's good for Atlanta is good for Savannah is good for Atlanta. We'll keep your port growing at breakneck pace, you guys keep sending tourists and international flights through our airport.
If only they can get that high speed rail connection between the two cities...

If growth continues like this with an influx of foreign money. I would give it 10-20 years till the first train leaves the station.

Its' not the foreign money that we should be worried about, it's the local politics...

The project is pretty well supported in atlanta, I think it is well supported in savannah, if nobody else wants it just dont have it stop anywhere beetween macon and savannah.

according to the GDOT website they support it but then again, were talking about the GDOT

I really don't think there is enough traffic between Savannah and Atlanta to warrant HSR. Atlanta to Charlotte and up the east coast to DC would make more sense. I did a quick check and Atlanta to Savannah by Amtrak would require a change of trains in DC. It would take almost a day and half to get there. That's how valuable Amtrak views travel between Atlanta and Savannah. Better off flying, driving, or taking Greyhound.
