My husband has accepted a job near the Atlanta airport. Would it be hard/crazy to commute from the northern suburbs each day? What route would you take? Mass transit a possibililty? After reading everything on here, it just "feels" like we would fit in better up there. Any suggestions? We can't buy just now because we are stuck with a rental home in San Antonio, but can afford up to $2500 for rent. We're empty nesters, so schools are not an issue for us. Just want to be near shopping, restaurants, places to walk, etc.

Crazy Yes,

Unless there is a reason for living on the north side, for your job, I would look in Peachtree City, area.

If he works off-rush hour it is do-able, Marta does go to airport from northside its a 45min Marta ride, from NorthSprings to the Airport. Then he need to get from airport to his job.

Thank you; that's what we were afraid the answer would be... everyone keeps telling us "Newnan or Peachtree City". I do have an old friend who lives next to Grant Park and he keeps trying to steer us over that way.

Grant Park is doable, also, Alot depends on where Near the airport is... If you can't walk to work from the stations before the airport. you are in a car.

You might also want to look at Senoia . Beautiful older town near Peachtree City, and Newnan. Very walkable, resturants, quaint shops.

I assume you're married to the idea of a single family house?

Because if not, you can buy a distressed 2/2 condo in midtown for like $150k (1700/mo total costs probably) and never do yard work again--that has become popular among people without kids. The airport is 20 min away at peak periods.

Most of the reason people head to northern suburbs in the first place is the schools.

Intown houses are nowhere near as cheap as condos.

Thanks for the info! I really need a yard... doesn't have to be a big one. I have to have trees, flowers, etc. We are not buying until we can sell the San Antonio house, which will be a few years. Next time we buy, we will be much wiser after the mistake we made in SA and it will hopefully be the last time.
