I would appreciate any help I can get. We are excited but a bit panicked about the move. My husband was just offered a great job with a great company. We have been looking for an opportunity to move out of AZ for a long time. Neither my husband or myself are natives. He is from PA originally and I'm from CA. I have always wanted to move more east, where there are seasons and it is GREEN!! We are excited but need a lot of help. He starts 8/27. We have 3 kids ages 7,11,12. Like everybody else, schools are important. We would rent at first. I will not be working at 1st so we would like to find something under $1500/mo, a 3 bedroom would be fine. Just needs idea's or suggestions -- where should we be looking? Thanks!!!!

Depends a great deal on where his office is.

And what kind of environment you like. Specifically, do you prefer the suburbs where everything is bigger and newer, but more spread out, or do you prefer the city where things tend to be a bit older but more dense?

You certainly won't be disappointed in Atlanta if you are looking for green. It's one of the greenest cities I have ever seen.

Thanks for the reply! Looking for the suburbs for sure. He will be downtown on Marietta st, zip code 30303, if that's downtown. I don't think we want to be more that 40 mins from his work unless theres a train that makes the commute easier. Thanks

For what you are looking for I would suggest one of the north Fulton county suburbs. Specifically Roswell or sandy springs. The schools are good and you have easy access to the Marta(our subway) red line to get downtown.

I think the 40 minute commute, great schools and $1500/month 3/2 might be slightly in conflict with each other. As StAubin said, North Fulton would be a good place to start looking, but your budget might be a little tight. You can get a great house in that price range a little further north in Cherokee County and have great schools, but the commute will be closer to an hour if he's working typical 9-5 hours.

The city of Marietta, in Cobb County. You can find apartments that size in that price range in Perimeter Center of Dunwoody. Good schools, safe area, lots of retail and restaurants. That is where I first moved to and its a great place for people to get used to Atlanta. Good luck with the humidity here!

North Fulton and Cherokee were mentioned as options, Cobb County or Marietta never were. Literally the only reference to Marietta was the street.
