(Nevermind, here it is...)

"So are saying that no private school is worth it? Or just this particular collection of private schools are not worth the money? Is the return on investment exceedingly higher at an Emory or Agnes Scott?"
I don't think Agnes Scott is a particularly prestigious school. Emory has a reputation, but their ROI is rather low given the cost of the education. If you are able to get a great scholarship to Emory, that could justify going there as the reputation is very good. Their graduate programs are worth their expense, but for undergrad, I would not send my child there. There are great public schools in this state that are inexpensive and offer incredible opportunities. For undergrad, you would have to be insane to spend $30,000 per year. It doesn't matter if it is a private HBCU or a public out of state school.

So it is safe to say that your problem is not with the AUC in particular, just expensive private schools and/or out-of-state tuition (unless you have a great scholarship)?

Partially true.

I do see problems with the AUC, Morehouse in particular. They are in a position where they need innovative, transformative leadership to change the way they conduct their business. Instead, they have a bloated, legacy administration that continues to do things the way they do because that is the way it has always been done. Until they start to innovate and act like a top tier college, they will continue to fall back on their default "we produced some great leaders awhile ago" stance which is losing it's meaning (as evidenced by the declining enrollment). Morehouse does have a valuable brand image that they rely on. However, the administration is failing the students and on their current trajectory, they will lose that image and fall into a death spiral.

Furloughs and cuts will be needed. What a big contrast between these schools that meet their financial issues head-on and Morris Brown which is in denial by running up vast debt and now is trying to avoid it by bankruptcy.

But a buyout of Morris Brown by the AUC doesn't seem likely.
They should unit some portion of the 3 schools. I think the athletic departments should definitely be consolidated. Does Morris Brown still even exist? Just merge all 3 schools.

One, this topic is like 4 years old. Two, your idea is stupid.

Morehouse's reputation has definitely gone downhill, but I still believe Spelman's reputation is solid and it's still a good school.

Morehouse is a mess...

With limited transparency and even less access, the Wilson administration has strategically manipulated the narratives of their success as demonstrated by their spin on the lowest enrollment numbers since the mid 1970’s, as “the largest entering class ever.” Combining the lack of fundraising, shrinking endowment, continuous cash-flow issues, the firing, removal or departure of 100+ faculty and staff (including humanities and science department staples). Wilson has alienated the alumni, which is visible by the lower than average numbers of alumni interaction with College and financial contributions.

Morehouse, the nation’s only all-male historically black college, had 2,439 undergraduates in 2011. After declines, enrollment has stabilized at 2,100, Tyler said.
