The Beltline seems to be making a lot of progress...

"On the last day of 2012, Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. (ABI) purchased a critical property from The Trust for Public Land that will connect the recently opened Eastside Trail with Historic Fourth Ward Park. Funding for the acquisition came from private donations to the Atlanta BeltLine Partnership Capital Campaign. This “Gateway” connection, when completed, will for the first time link this new park to the rest of the Atlanta BeltLine, which connects to Piedmont Park and the Freedom Park Trail leading to the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library complex..."

They virtually gave it away for free too!

.76 acres for $1.325 million.

Very generous of the Trust for Public Land

I love the Beltline, and I use it all the time, and I feel that any progress is good news, but I fail to see how this is as big a win as they're making it out to be. It's not like they figured out how to cross the freight yard at Dekalb Ave. Now that will be big news.

What exactly are you asking?

The Path and the Beltline connect behind Pure Taqueria in Inman Park and work just fine.

Agreed. How awesome would it be if a developer bought the rail yard and turned it into a mixed use / residential transit-oriented development and had the Beltline cut straight through? No signs that this will happen, but we can dream.

Why would we want a major business and job contributor to the local economy to move? That yard has been there over 100 years and is still going strong. I've personally seen the container activity increase as the economy improves, from MARTA.

Why not move the facility to another area of the city with lower land values that could then allow for possible higher capacity, and thus more profits to the business?
