This is very interesting. Please read and comment if you have a minute, particularly if you're a parent/student. If you want to jump to the cake then just read the "Georgia's wiche profile" given below.

From the Chronicle;

"By the year 2020, minority students will account for 45 percent of the nation's public high-school graduates, up from 38 percent in 2009. In short, the number of white and black graduates will decline, and the number of Hispanic and Asian-American/Pacific Islander graduates will rise significantly.

Those projections appear in the latest edition of Knocking at the College Door, a regular report on demographic change published by the commission, which is known as Wiche. Released on Thursday, the updated report includes national, regional, and state-by-state projections for graduates of public and private high schools through 2027-28, revealing the enrollment challenges colleges must adapt to.

Birthrates and migration patterns are altering the racial and ethnic composition of the population, according to the report. Although increases in minority graduates will vary from state to state, not one, it says, "will escape the necessity of addressing the particular needs of a diversifying student body."

More people=more graduates. Pretty easy to figure that out. Your headline is misleading making it seem like the percentage of black and white students that are graduating is getting lower while that isn't what the article states.

I don't think you read the WICHE release or the article!

It is a can of worms, but better to speak about it than it be the elephant in the room.

Not sure why this is a "can of worms".

Man, white people are scared of anything they aren't in control of.

It's more the fact that one racial group may improve and the other may not. It's not really a white person thing. What you said is actually a real can of worms.

One racial group is just going to outnumber another. We know Mexicans are taking over.

LOL!

First:

Quote:

And then:

Quote:
We know Mexicans are taking over.
Since Mexicans are the only Hispanics accounting for the increase in Hispanic numbers.

These are such ignorant statements that I hope they are jokes.

Both are true to a strong extent. Historically and presently, whites panic and get aggressive or scared when they loose control of something as a group. Look at white flight and the scare of minorities overtaking whites in America and republicans saying "we need more white babies".

Yes, most Hispanics in this country are Mexican. The fastest growing in raw numbers is Mexican.

I didn't click on the links but I read what you copied and pasted here and it doesn't insinuate what your title does, which was that a lower % of black and white students will graduate. All it is about is that the % of the overall population is changing and so will the number of graduates of different ethnicities because of those changes. Everyone already knows(or should know) that because of birth rates and immigration(legal and otherwise) white will not be the majority in America for long. Not a can of worms and not the elephant in the room, it is just something that is happening and will continue to happen. Whether that is a good or bad thing is another topic.
