East Cobb schools vs. In Town private Schools comparison

Yes, I can see that tradition must carry a lot of weight in the South. Eye opening indeed. Heck, I always thought of college as a time to go out into the world and explore something new. I am really somewhat surprised that a young 18 year old would limit him/herself to the South and not even apply to a school up north. I wonder if people from the South are more apprehensive about going up north than people from the North are about coming South. Interesting indeed. I guess this is how the South can stay so conservative. Unless you expand your mind to other ways of thinking and go out of your comfort zone, you get generation after generation of the same old ways of thinking. I hope parents aren't mentally limiting their children by discouraging them from going to "liberal" schools. Let them go. Let them grow. They might even LIKE being a liberal (the dirty word.

Thanks LovelySummer and all of the others who have posted. This is a great amount of good information. The 3 schools we are considering for elementary are East Side, Mt Bethel and Sope Creek. Does anyone have good information comparing them? We are attempting to stay on the Dickerson/Walton feeder paths. What swim/tennis or neighborhoods are good in East Cobb for each of these schools? The further east in East Cobb the better for commuting but also want to be close some of the action at the Avenue and target. What options are there in that area that are good for swim tennis or have a good neighborhood for kids....??

If you want to be close to that intersection, I would also consider the Timber Ridge/Dodgen or Dickerson/Walton path. (Timber Ridge is 5 minutes from Mt. Bethel, so I don't think it would really make a difference in commute at all.) Dodgen Middle just outperformed Dickerson on many measures on the most recent standardized tests for whatever that is worth. I can't remember your price range, but there are some very nice options. Most of the neighborhoods are swim tennis.
