I was unemployed for a long time already and finishing school (online so where I lived didn't matter). It was the smartest thing and stupidest thing I've done in my life.
It took me a year and a half to find a full time permanent job. I worked temp jobs and did some freelance stuff while searching for a full time job.
Good Luck!
Things were a lot different in 2009.

I agree. However, I guess I can only speak for the people I know personally who left Atlanta because they couldn't find work here after searching for YEARS. Everyone I know who has left this city was able to find work in the cities they moved to in less than a month after leaving Atlanta. None of them had jobs lined up when they left.

I don't think it's wise to go anywhere without work also if it can be helped, but it seems while the economy is picking up and jobs are being added in other cities, Atlanta is still lagging behind.
