If you were given one billion dollars to invest in Atlanta, what would you do? [Note: The money cannot be used for personal items and you must spend all of it.]

Expand MARTA within Fulton, DeKalb and Clayton Counties. Build transit on the BeltLine, streetcar connections, and build BRT on key roads.

Transit as a whole. Then put in place a good program for small businesses to occupy all those empty new storefronts.

Quick thoughts: 30% to accelerate the Beltline, 10% to accelerate expanded streetcar (in addition to the Beltline), 5% to get the I-20E transit initiative going, at least the BRT (It will go right near me ). 5% to the South Moreland Ave LCI (also near me ). 20% to Invest Atlanta to attract more business and improve the city. 20% to accelerate or fund studies and such to draw more funding for other concept 3 projects. 10% as a watchdog / government transparency for metro transit agencies, Atlanta government, and Georgia State government as a whole.

Targeted infill in several neighborhoods with rowhouses like these new ones in Inman Park:

Good candidate areas with blocks upon blocks of these would be east Downtown, South Downtown, Mechanicsville, Pittsburgh, Vine City and that butt ugly area between West Peachtree and the connector in Midtown. I figure with that amount of money, one could build several thousand of those rows. And I would do it even if I broke even.

Accerlerate the Beltline. Add Marta stops within the present framework. Attach Amtrack to Marta. Increase density ITP. Invest in Downtown to encourage more toursim, this must include a nicer train ride from Airport to downtown/midtown hotels.

I would go to many foriegn countries and adopt as many female babies of multiple races, bring them to Atlanta and raise them here. At least 30,000 female babies, I think I could get that for a billion.

You've got problems, dude.

Although, it is a good idea for the city or person to specifically target upwardly mobile and educated to relocate to Atlanta proper in large batches. A few hundred here or there from places like Nigeria or Ghana or China or the Philippines. Like make a big deal out of it along the lines of saying "Atlanta is opening it's doors to the world and wants you to come make this your home." They in turn will likely convince people they know to come, and will begin a snowball effect. It's worth a shot.
