This is interesting and definitely a major public health problem that needs to be addressed, but they need to adjust that map before they start. There's no way all of those areas are food deserts. Just for example, the area that includes the Publix at the corner of Spring Street and Peachtree Place in Midtown is shaded as a food desert. Really? And I don't think anyone could claim Georgia Tech is a food desert - there's a small grocery store on campus (with some fresh foods) and easy access by pubic transit and the Tech Trolley (or on bike or foot) to several grocery stores.
The real problem areas are in west and southwest Atlanta.

Tech has a Publix at Atlantic Station too...yeah, I think some of that map is a little off.

Yeah, it does seem off. But I wonder if it only seems off because we don't know how they are defining food deserts? I looked, but couldn't find their definition. Or maybe the map is older? It seems weird that Grant Park is not considered a food desert, but Ormewood Park is. Parts of that neighborhood are closer to the Kroger in Edgewood than Grant Park, as well as to the Kroger on Moreland near Confederate. Grant Park really doesnt have any nearby grocery stores. I think it would help for their definition of what constitutes a food desert to be included in the article.
