to give u an idea how it is here, i pay $1300 for an old ass 1 bd in northern nj (no, parking, no washer/dryer)
...The upside is that generally, $1300 a month gets you A LOT more in the Atlanta area, depending on the location.

$1300/monthly for a one bedroom will likely get you something much nicer than where you are living in North New Jersey.

Depending on where you are in the metro area, for $1300/monthly you might be able to get something with up to 4 bedrooms, especially outside the city.

Look around and checkout your options before you make any decisions on where to live as Atlanta has some pretty nice and desirable (and very-affordable compared to NY-NJ) areas outside of the city.

Also make sure that you have a job lined up before moving south as the Atlanta area is coming off of a brutal job market and is slowly recovering from the worst downturn that has been seen around these parts in quite awhile.

You might also be able to get someplace to stay of fairly high quality in a decent area for substantially less than $1300 monthly if you take a look around the city and the metro.

Just an FYI: I have a friend that lives here from Perm, Russia. There is a social organization here for Russian natives that meets regularly.

Why ATL is attractive to me: low COL comparing to other major cities, not too big, but looks big enough to not get bored, not overcast (I used to live in the Pacific NW and had issues with the lack of sunlight), from what I understand, 4 seasons?, good scenery and greenery, seems way more laid back than NE, diversity, nightlife looks good (i like hip hop oriented events)
Things that concern me: summer heat and humidity, how bad is it? the city seems liberal, but I heard that the burbs can be very conservative, I am prolly more liberal, but don't like extremes on either side, for example Portland and Seattle were too liberal, borderline communist (Seattle actually has a Lenin statue), that said I am a Russian immigrant and hate close minded, racist people, rednecks with a southern accent to me sound like lynchings and whips. Is that an issue? How are race relations in general?
What's the overall vibe like?
Is there a Russian community?
Are there really many fine black women? (I like) What about regular white and foreign women? (I also like)
Based on everything you're written above, you'd love Atlanta, and Atlanta would love you

Depends on where you live. Couple of my friends live outside the perimeter (OTP) and pay less than $600 per month for a 1 bedroom. I have a 1 bedroom in Midtown and pay $1,100.
