Hi, I am relocating to Atlanta for work. My office is in Johns Creek and I do not want to live in the suburbs, so I am looking at the Buckhead/Midtown/AS/Brookhaven area.

I understand commute will be somewhat bad but am not considering that a factor other than to evaluate between ITP areas. I'm a single guy, no kids, and in my early 30's.

I've driven through the general areas mentioned but have not actually looked at any condos/townhomes yet. I'd appreciate feedback and advice based on the above and my info below....

1. Budget - $350-450k

2. House/Condo/Townhome? Condo most likely, maybe townhome

3. Employment Status(commute/work from home) Commute

4. Children(public school vs. private) N/A

5. Suburban or Urban lifestyle preference or a mix of the two - Urban

6. Easy access to public transit, important or not? Not

7. Preferable demographics of desired neighborhood - Young(ish) professionals, single women would certainly not hurt

Thanks!

I don't see any reason for you to live all the way down in Midtown. Being in your 30's Buckhead would be a better bet or even Perimeter. It is technically OTP but is just as urban as 95% of Buckhead and closer to work.

If you are going to be living inside the I-285 Perimeter in someplace like a Buckhead or a Midtown or an Atlantic Station or a Brookhaven and commuting to and from Johns Creek during morning and evening rush hours, then you really should not have any problems with your commute for the most part.

That's because your rush hour commute will mostly be a "reverse commute" where you are driving to work in the suburbs while virtually all of the extremely-heavy rush hour traffic is heading in the opposite direction.

Living in the city inside of I-285 and working in Johns Creek in the suburbs OTP (outside of the I-285 Perimeter) gives you a lot of living options that you might not necessarily have otherwise because the heaviest traffic will mostly be headed in the other direction.

Brookhaven and Buckhead will most likely be the easiest commutes to and from Johns Creek.

That's because Johns Creek would be a straight shot of only about 20 miles or so by way of Georgia Highway 141.

At roughly 25-30 miles from Johns Creek, Atlantic Station and Midtown would not necessarily be bad commutes either by way of either I-85 North to I-285 Westbound to GA 141 North or Peachtree Rd/GA 141 North because virtually all of the extremely-heavy traffic will be going the other way on almost all of those major roads.

Good points, but it's still more like 35-40 minutes.
