The quote "Paris of the West" or "Paris of the _________" has nothing to do with French history. It has to do with architectural and cultural beauty. Paris has a uniformity of architecture that is superlative. San Francisco, especially before the 1906 earthquake, had a similar beauty and uniformity of architecture (Victorian) to Paris (Haussmann).

And as for saying Atlanta has no pre-war architecture is pure nonsense. And the post-modern skyline of Atlanta, upset by Piedmont Park between Midtown and Downtown is far prettier than Detroit's skyline, even with the Detroit River in the f.g.

Oh, what fun! Yet another banned former member obviously threatened by Atlanta, so much so that he was compelled to start a new account and dredge up an old thread just to 'put us in our place.'

Anyone that makes these beyond ridiculous claims is delusional AND has an agenda.

Atlanta is in it's prime right now, and is booming like never before. Get out of our way, and stay in your own damn lane buddy.

Absolutely. San Francisco was very much on the radar of the French literati during the Belle Epoque. They were particularly aware of the Bohemian spirit and no-holds barred attitude of the city, driven by its' isolation and thus its' freedom from convention. It's not like Europeans have turned their their back on what transpires here in a historical sense. Many have postulated that the French Revolution was fomented by our own, inspired by writers such as Paine, Franklin and Jefferson.

Oscar Wilde: It's an odd thing, but anyone who disappears is said to be seen in San Francisco.

Its obvious you have never been to Atlanta. One of the original 3 Flat Iron builings is in Atlanta. Its considered to be one of the key styles of architectural historic designs. There are several buildings downtown Atlanta that are on the national historic register.

If Detroit were really that beautiful,it would be growing.

Atlanta is aesthetically superior as more than half of it is run down like Detroit.Detroit of course has great bones and wonderful architecture but its not been taken care of.
We are not just talking about sky scrapers but neighborhoods

Last I heard, the city was growing.

Obviously people on the Atlanta forum are going to protect their city, but the truth is nobody thinks Atlanta is beautiful. You guys don't even have a large body of water. That being said I think Atlanta is great.
"The truth is nobody thinks Atlanta is beautiful"...you belong in a rubber room.

I see how that was a little rude, which is why I edited my post.

But yeah, I never hear anybody say the city is "beautiful" besides the residents who want to boast their hometown. What gives Atlanta residents the right to start ****ting on other cities they know nothing about? Sorry, I like Atlanta btw, it's not only office parks like he says, but it's not like other urban cities either.

So you believe that Detroit has prettier buildings. Just stick with that. No need to say Atlanta's are "hideous." No one will take you seriously except perhaps for Mr. Trump. You can compliment a place without denigrating another and insulting folks who may disagree with you.
