I don't think its a matter of looking at any particular city to learn how to expand transit. Portland and Charlotte have been mentioned in transit the conversation locally only as examples of the impact of light rail on the development patterns of those cities. For Atlanta, the issues remain the same. How is it going to be funded and who is going to operate and maintain it?

Great answer and the only answer that makes sense

I did. If anything has gone off the rails, it certainly isn't MARTA.

I predict that at least a portion of the Beltline will have transit by 2040, which is entirely within the original time line.

He means that post. Our beltline is nothing but a pipe dream at this point, and the NE beltline, a pipe dream that should be bulldozed and left for REAL rail transit that will actually serve people with an existing need.

Nowhere is light rail linked with the Beltline in that statement. ..quite a stretch.
And are you serious about bulldozing the Beltline? It's no pipe dream; its quite far along, actually, and being embraced by a multitude of Atlantans. What cave in Conyers have you been hiding in?

I'm a supporter of the Beltline, but ajjam clearly spoke as if Beltline rail already existed--hence the comparison with LYNX in Charlotte. That was rather perplexing. But then again, knowing him, it really wasn't.

Yes, he should have qualified the statement with the word 'proposed'...however, I sincerely doubt that he believes there exists light rail on the Beltline.
