This could be a real gift in the making for intown living. The area of Turner Field and the adjacent parking lots are a huge area in terms of acreage & will be ripe for redevelopment & reinvestment in intown living, perhaps in a mixed use type of setting(s).
All you need to know that this is a giant opportunity is to look to the east & northeast from Turner Field & the eastern/northern parking lots to see how tons of new housing has been constructed west from Grant Park & on into Summerhill, a construction boom that began in the form of a handful of town homes constructed just before the Olympics.
As for the effect on nearby neighborhoods, a positve factor is that it will remove a congestion & noise issue for residents.
I lived a mile away from Turner Field for a decade & could never understand why they were allowed to shoot off fireworks every night the Braves won, even if a rain delay or extra inning game meant the game played into the wee hours of the night. I could hear the fireworks from afar and was awakened from my sleep repeatedly. Talk about being a selfish, bad neighbor to nearby neighborhoods!

My thoughts exactly. This opens up the neighborhoods around the stadium to new development.

I disagree. Assuming the city sells the land, it offers a great chance to revitalize the area.

Birth Centers are an alternate to a hospital birth. A more home-like, natural, hollistic experience. Options also include water births. The centers use Midwives instead of Doctors. The rates of complications during birth, tears, and other negative issues during birth are drastically lower. The hospital stay is much smaller also. Right now you can go to North Fulton or Atlanta Medical Center for a water birth with Midwives but you'd be surprised how much Atlanta is lacking in this type of birthing option. This is in contrast to the high C-Section rate that Northside, the idea is some of these C-Sections can be avoided with a different approach.

That wouldn't be enough to fill up the entire site where the stadium though. It would have to be a part of a larger development.

Just put a barbed wire fence around it and let it rot. Or turn in into a "drifting center" since I see people out there in the parking lots drifting on days with no games.

Redevelopment? Yes, of course. Its the only way that entire area will survive. The "Atlantic station" like development sounds good. Tear down the Ted and dig a HUGE lake. Develop around the lake with residential and commercial mixed use with walking and bike trails connected to the beltline and underground.
A park with Hanks HR spot as a center piece would be cool. Residential is a must though.
