Why trackfield and soccer are horrible idea ?

Arthur Blank is working on getting an MLS team to put in his new stadium and seems pretty close to it being announced so soccer will not need to be here.

Maybe they will try to dump it on Georgia State like they are underground Atlanta. Force them to play football there.

Is the state coercing Georgia State to buy Underground??? That is just not right, if so.

I don't think they are coercing them. I'm just exaggerating. They are saying it would be nice if Georgia State bought it. But I think that is more Atlanta wishing than the state pushing them.

Turner Field is nice land, but its a very long term play. I'm afraid Underground is a black hole.

I hate to see a perfectly serviceable facility get torn down. That applies to the Dome as well as Turner Field.
There ought to be a law banning government money (or some excise tax to make it unprofitable) on stadiums that would be abandoned in less than 30 years.
But the Braves and Falcons and Atlanta and Cobb have made their choices. So there's no use for the old facilities.

Why are we trying to keep a useless, taxpayer funded stadium? Tear the thing down, maybe rebuild part of the facade at COP, and move the torch to COP. That land is more valuable with residents and businesses on it, generating tax money.

My idea is a mixed-use office, restaurant and residential development with lots of jobs for people in adjoining neighborhoods (Summerhill, Mechanicsville, Peoplestown, Pittsburgh) and a people mover connection to 5-points (probably LRT). Keep the name Turner in it.

Unique challenge of Braves stadium excites architect | www.ajc.com

Uh, the traffic relief plan consists of adding an additional street off of Windy Ridge Blvd? Good luck with that.
