Why is the "wish list" now a "demand"? If the city didn't like the 2 sports bars and 2 casual restaurants they should have negotiated, or at least come back with a counter proposal. I guess they just too wrapped up with the Falcons.

The Braves' proposal actually sounds okay to me. Don't most developers get to decide the retail and restaurants going into their projects?

But isn't a wish list and demands the same thing? The city was talking it over and was developing a counter-offer to present later this month. Read the CL article.

Since they have been proposing this since 1997 and absolutely nothing done to this point.... can you fault the Braves for finally giving up and moving on?

Well seeing how there was a recession in 2001 and 2008. The demand for intown living wasn't as high back then as now, I can see why it was taking so long. Earlier this year developers submitted proposal for the area so there was movement forward.

They're not the same thing at all. A wish list is just that -- things you'd like to see in an ideal world. It clearly implies a willingness to negotiate.

The city of Atlanta rejected the Braves proposal in the early summer. When the team made another counter-offer two months ago, the city simply didn't respond. It's a little lame to show up after the fact and say, "Oh, well, we were planning on making a reply fairly soon."

Yet in the meantime the city was pulling out all the stops to accommodate the Falcons.

How would you interpret that if you were the Braves? Especially since you'd been getting a poke in the eye for the last 16 years?

A new football stadium hosts a wider variety of events and more multi-use than a baseball stadium. Plus the city was neg. on behalf of the GWCC and state of Georgia.

cq, the city majorly dropped the ball when it came to the Braves. They had many years to work something out, yet they continued to stiff arm the Braves up to the bitter end.

Had the city given the Braves the same red carpet treatment it accorded to the Falcons the Braves would still be in the city.

So you would have been okay with the CoA dipping into its general fund to bribe the Braves to stay at the Ted?

I know I am not. With Cobb's proposal, the city of Atlanta is getting a steal for its $200M in hotel/motel tax money.

The Atlanta Braves unveiled plans on Wednesday for the $400 million entertainment district that would spring up beside the new $672 million stadium that’s set to open in 2017.

The district, which is still in early planning phases, would feature a street lined with retail, restaurants and bars leading up to the stadium. A ring of trees and greenspace would surround the stadium and entertainment district, and a small amphitheater would be at the center of the development.

“No one in the country has ever built a brand new sports facility and created this kind of development at the same time,” Braves executive Mike Plant told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We believe this is the best example of a private-public partnership. And this has been a key part of this from day one.”

The $400 million would be entirely funded by the Braves and a potential development partner, which has not yet been selected.
