It should be a GREAT place for locals to drop by once every couple of months for a couple of beers and a spin around the Sun Dial. For whatever reason, they just can't seem to pull that off. I had pretty high hopes too. I used to go every so often before the renovation. Last time was bad enough that I can't even see trying it again. It's on the list.
My "last" visit was a month or two ago.

EDIT: I'm talking about the bar part, not the restaurant. Never really had an interest in eating there.
Well, that's disappointing. Hope the Polaris fares better.

I ate at the restaurant a couple of times about 10-12 years ago...it was pretty good then, but I have no idea how it is now. I imagine most of the business comes from tourists and hotel guests.

Now that I think more about it, last time I tried the Sun Dial it was a little late on a weekend. That's no excuse for the poor service and experience, but...

And it is a "tourist trap" but that view is too nice to cede to the tourists.

IF I was to ever give the Sun Dial another another chance, it would be the way I had done it semi-successfully in the past. Go about 30 minutes before sundown. Have a beer or three as the sun goes down, enough time to do a full loop, and then bolt. Don't expect much from the service. When you order your last drink get the check as well, they really tend to just leave you and disappear.

The food in the bar seems sub par and the drinks are definitely pricey, but, I can deal with the drink prices since the view up there is so nice.

It's a real shame, the Sun Dial should be something locals WANT to do from time to time. Thankfully other rooftop options exist in the downtown area, though none are 72 stories up.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack this Polaris thread with my pissy Sun Dial experiences.
