Have you guys ever wondered how this conversation went during prohibition? Seriously.

My great-grandparents and grandparents (if I'm not going be lying about my age) still thought of drinking and gambling (get it's a separate topic) like they were two of the seven deadly sins.

Perhaps if I were alive back then, I might have made some moonshine. It's fair to say I was given something called a hot toddy that I am sure should have been a prosecutable offense by these same people when I was 5 or younger.

I guess I just don'r get it. If it can help them, then why not give if to them. There's been some physical damage done already or we would not be having this conversation about unconventional remedies.

That's the problem in a nutshell - the prohibition industry which includes the for profit prison industry, the mercenaries (I mean police), DEA, lawyers, judges.

How about freedom of choice? Let's let people decide. God forbid we should be allowed to grow our own medicine. Where's the profit in that?

This, exactly. This is exactly why I am torn and ambivalent on the subject of legalization of marijuana.

I have seen and experienced what you have described first-hand from family members, friends, lovers, significant-others, and students/clients. Too many by-the-book examples of this to count...

This is the result of heavy chronic users. ANY substance used to excess is generally going to have a negative effect.

Used in moderation, it has a lot of benefits imo, such as reducing stress.

What determines a "heavy chronic user"?

And damn right marijuana reduces stress--along with motivation and ambition. Hard to be stressed when you don't give a $h!t.

What you have failed to realize is that while you are worrying about legal weed's potential effects on your teens, young people have almost totally taken over the current market for marijuana in the illegal states (in which it is still easy as pie to obtain).

For many high school students, marijuana is easier to obtain than alcohol.

My last dealer was a high school student, lol. The one before that was 23.

The reason for this? There is no black market for alcohol. As such there is a greater chance of their being a record of a young person obtaining alcohol, since they either have to get it from their parents supply or get someone of legal age to purchase it for them. Teens' use of marijuana today is trivially easy to conceal.

I can guarantee you that if your teens or 20 something wanted to obtain marijuana, they could do so relatively easily. So that argument is not really valid either.

Someone who uses it every day for hours a day.

It does not reduce motivation or ambition in moderation.

Are you aware that millions of professional people in the US use it regularly?
