We moved to Atlanta 4 years ago and don't like it, we think that it is because we have been staying in Clayton County the whole time! It seems like everything (good shopping, restaurants, good schools, etc) is in the North part of Atlanta, which we don't really visit that much. I do, however, love going walking at the Clayton International Park (the "beach"). We have been looking at rentals in other parts on Craigslist, but haven't really found anything. What good areas with good schools (kids in elementary) are there where we can find a 3 or 4 bedroom home for $1200/mo or under? Also, somewhere where I can jog around the neighborhood if I wanted to.

Help rescue us from Clay Co LOL !

You could stay in East Cobb or Sandy Springs/Dunwoody. Pretty much anywhere in the north metro has what you're looking for. As far as costs, you can find something in that range. I'm not sure about areas where you can jog, but it shouldn't be hard to find.

P.S. Just curious but could you tell me exactly where in Clayton you live. I'm sure at least some schools are good. With shopping and restaurants, it depends on what you like.

Good areas with good schools can generally be found all over North Metro Atlanta above the I-20 in the counties of Paulding, Cobb, Cherokee, Forsyth, North Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Hall, Barrow and Walton counties.

Good areas with good schools can also be found in South Metro Atlanta below the I-20 in the counties of Douglas, South Fulton, Coweta, Fayette, Henry, Rockdale and Newton counties.

When looking for a new place to live, what is most-important is staying as close as you can to the geographical area where you currently work so that you can minimize the amount of time that you will have to commute in metro Atlanta's notorious rush hour and peak-hour traffic congestion.

In which geographical area (city, town, zip code or mailing area) do you now currently work? Do you currently work on the Southside or on the Northside?

Surprised you want to move, that's actually one of the good parts of Clayton. But I understand where you come from as far as shopping and restaurants. Rex Mill middle( a magnet school) and Mt Zion high are actually good schools. Not sure about elementary schools though. But you'd really like North Atlanta better. There are definitely better amenities there. And East Clayton/ North Henry isn't the best place in retail terms.

What are the locations that you can transfer to on the Northside that might be appealing to you?

With your desire for a 3-4 bedroom home in the price range of $1200/monthly, the best options for you on the Northside would be in Paulding, South Cobb, Cherokee, maybe West Forsyth, Gwinnett, South Hall, Barrow and Walton counties.

If you wanted to live in areas like East Cobb, West Cobb, North Cobb, North Fulton, North DeKalb or Buckhead, at the price range of $1200/monthly, you would most likely have to live in an apartment.

Well t mobile is everywhere so any of these would be an option. I have heard some things about Forsyth though, and being African American I believe that I will steer clear of that area. I'll have to look into all the others though!
Thanks so much you guys have been a blessing!

In Buckhead, 1200 is a one bedroom. But there may be other good areas of the metro that would work well.
