No reason. I do not work. But I do like the ideas of walking places with the kids and living someplace slightly more diverse and progressive I guess you'd say? Farmer's markets, local restaurants, etc. I do like the idea of swim teams/pools associations and my husband golfs a bit and loves the idea of a big yard and garage so possibly suburban living would be better? We live in surbrbs of Chicago and like it a lot.
There are good choices for both lifestyles in the Atlanta area. My personal choice was to trade the larger sq ft and yard for more diverse, walkable area. But you must decide what you and your family prefer.

I think that much of the Gwinnett suburbs are much more successfully culturally and racially diverse than the intown is. Walkability in the suburbs is more of problem. Personally, I enjoy both places. Even if money were a non-issue, I would opt for the shorter commute, so I could spend time with my kids. An hour that you spend in traffic, is an hour of life wasted. The commute from Decatur might not be that bad (and maybe Morningside, too)--you should try it out during your husband commute times-- there is no way I would consider a Grant Park-to-Tucker commute, when there are good schools about 15 min from your husband's work.
I'm thinking about commute times myself. I currently live in Grayson where our schools are great and my wife teaches in Gwinnett. However I want to be closer in, but I can't sacrifice the educational environment my children are in. I don't care as much about sq ft but since I have 3 kids I have to make it doable unless the boys do the bunk bed sharing thing. Its just so hard to get closer in with also not making myself house rich and cash poor.
I guess there are some areas just inside that would work, but that's almost like living in Gwinnett.

You can get into the great school districts either in town or suburbs with your budget. You may not be able to get all of your wants in either location, but you have good options.
I'm from Chicago and am thinking of areas that are similar to various Chicago suburbs. We talking some place like Oak Park or some place like Schaumburg or more remote?

where in Gwinett would you recommend then? Norcross or peachtree corners? Lilburn? Are there areas where non-religious families would not feel alone? I heard most socializing revolves around the church.... Honestly, I do not mind having to drive to the grocery, shopping, etc but I'd like a little downtown area possibly and not simply strip mall after strip mall.

You can find listings on MLS listings or Zillow among other sources.
A quick search finds dozens and dozens of 3 or 4+ bedroom places in both City of Decatur and Grady cluster if you are doubting your $4xxK in-town options in the best school districts. Places around Grant Park (like my place) can be had for half that.

No I meant where in Atlanta? So just CoD? I am not sure how to look up MLS via specific school like grady clusters... Need to see a realtor once we get down there I guess.

You will probably need a Realtor to help to find exactly what you want. Online listings are usually delayed.
