What gas company do you prefer? What electricity company do you prefer? Satellite or Cable?

I was not aware that communities were allowed to select their utility companies (electric or gas). I thought those were determined by your locale. So I don't know how I could "prefer" one over the other.

As far as cable vs. satellite - I had satellite in the first place I lived in Atlanta (it was included in the rent), and I lost signals many times during windy weather or thunderstorms. I have never had that problem with cable (Comcast). However, I will say this - Comcast has the worst customer service department I have ever dealt with in any capacity.

We have a choice of gas companies in Mableton, but we've gone with Georgia Natural Gas, and I've been quite happy with them.

You might find this and this to be useful sites when comparing gas providers.

I'm not sure we have a choice in terms of electricity providers, but we're using Greystone Power currently and we've been quite happy. It's a smaller coop, but they seem to have their act together.

As far as TV/internet service, we use Comcast for both, and things have been fine over the past two years, but you might not have that option in much of the metro. We have neighbors who started with a dish and who are now moving to cable for various reasons (storms can cause signal loss, the Weather Channel on dish isn't as focused on local weather as the one on cable, etc.).

I would agree that Comcast's customer service can't even be explained with words currently in the English language (they're THAT bad). My neighbors had a problem last week and he told me they held on the phone for OVER 1 hour and had to talk to some woman who sounded like English was maybe her third language, who chewed gum loudly and giggled with whoever sat next to her the whole time he talked to her. They keep sending me special promos in the mail that look tempting, but they would have to give me cable for $5 a month before I'd go with them.

I prefer electric...my gas bill has always been outrageous in comparison. I prefer cable, but comcast is ridiculously priced and I can't wait to switch to someone else.

I never want to use gas if electric is available. I used to live in an apartment, my gas bill was always high. Should I have everything on electric, I would have saved much money. Never buy a house with gas option only for your heating.
