Apparently the elected officials do not like the diversity.

From what I read they immediately fired this woman, who had been on the job only a few weeks.

The only reason why she was terminated due to the situation being exposed and the high likelihood of it getting to the local media. So this sounds like more like damage control rather they alleviation of a situation. Oh yeah, this particular lady has history of working as their communication/PR manager for another local municipality, *ahem* Johns Creek...

Well, I don't know how they could have fired her until they found out but those folks up in Brookhaven generally don't mess around.

It is damage control, even if Brookhaven hired her for the purpose or portraying it as lilly white, which I doubt, why would they not fire her? This is 2015, it's hard to double down on bigotry.

She gets her direction from the city manager or BOC, she didn't just wake up and decide Brookhaven should only carter to upper class whites.

Well, do you figure a fire chief who circulated a book he'd written describing gays and lesbians as sexual perverts was getting his directions from the mayor and city council? Were the police who raided a venerable gay bar acting on policy set by the city?

Don't forget that Brookhaven is a very diverse city with large minority populations.

The fire chiefs freedom of speech stops when he publishes it. He has a right to say it, but his employer has the right to fire him as well, especially a city with as high a LGBT population as Atlanta he should have known to keep his mouth shut.

There is no actual Census demographic breakdown to verify this to be fact. The only data available that could be used the former North Atlanta census designated place (CDP) from the 2010 Census. However, that former CDP had a population of 40K and was a much smaller area; whereas the municipality has an estimated population of 49K as of the 2013 American Community Survey. That is a 9,000 person discrepancy, which is statistically significant for a sample that size...
