They are not Going to "Go"

They won't even think about doing early release of there Lease Renewal on Turner Filed, until the State Supreme Count does the Appeal of the Bonds in February.

Of course they won't. Braves aren't in business to be a good neighbor. They want to maximize profit and minimize their risk.

Look at the area surrounding their current location to see how good a neighbor they are.

How is that the Braves fault when the area hasn't done much, well pretty much nothing to improve itself? That's one of the reasons they want to move to begin with. Not to mention the cries that would've come about tearing down everything around there to build like they are where they're moving to. The area is already taking full advantage of that stadium coming before they even throw a pitch. I've seen more construction out here in the past few months since that announcement than I have since i've lived here, and i've been here for nearly 8 years.

Who wants to live or open a business around empty parking lots that are used at least 81 times a year?

Ask the folks of Denver, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, etc.

They built up the area around their ballparks into vibrant communities. Atlanta did nothing but throw money at a facility that hosts 10-12 football games a year. Atlanta lost in Reed's sweetheart Falcons deal.

Sure the initial investment is great, but putting public money to fund car-centric stadiums is bad policy and wears down areas over time.

Clearly this proposal shows that the Braves were (and continue to be) a hindrance to development in the area, not a cause for it. What is Cobb hoping to get for their $450M investment? A $400M Fuqua "mixed use" development next door? We will see how that stands the test of time. But my money is (literally) on Summerhill doing better.

Developer Swears $300M Turner Field Plan is Unchanged - Department of Corrections - Curbed Atlanta

Quote:
Those of us with visions of a $1 billion facelift changing the functionality and attractiveness of the Turner Field area need to hold our horses, according to one company vying to buy the site. Contrary to recent reports, officials with Carter, an Atlanta-based developer, say word of a $1 billion redevelopment around The Ted is off base. Carter, Georgia State University and Columbia Residential teamed up earlier this year to offer their vision for an overhaul of The Ted and its vast parking lots, which would cost about 1/3 of a billion. "The project currently stands where it's been," Carter spokesman Mike Rieman said Thursday. "No new information at this time. The $300 million number is still accurate."
