Will be moving to Atlanta from a large city in the Northeast (job is forcing relocation). I'm single, caucasian F, early 30s. Would like to get input re where to live, where/how to meet people, and what to expect in terms of culture shock coming from the NE.

As you might gather, I'm nervous about this move…first big move to a place where I literally don't know anyone! Initially quite down when I heard of my imminent relocation…still anxious but excited for new adventures.

Thanks for any input

Atlanta is a huge city in terms of geographic area and commute times. In order to give good advice, we'd need to know what part of town you will be working in.

A lot of people move from the the northeast (and other places of course) to metro Atlanta. It's not the northeast, but you won't be the only one either.

We are moving to the area from Atlanta. One of our main priorities was finding a community within which we can be comfortable and made that a primary objective of our exploratory trip and were not disappointed. The church we're attending has many transplants, not just from the northeast but California and from Europe, too.

FYI. I graduated high school in Atlanta many, many years ago. I was in a graduating class of 365 and was the ONLY native Atlantan in the class. Bottom line, almost everyone in Atlanta is a transplant, so don't worry at all. I'm a native, but my parents moved here from Maine.

We need a little more info on where your work will be located in order to give you any credible advice on communities. Traffic in Atlanta is what you have to consider first and foremost when looking for a place. If you're going to be located in the heart of the city for work, your options are endless. Meeting people through work, neighborhood watering holes, church, fitness clubs, sporting interests, etc. is easier than you think. You just have to come here with an open mind to take advantage of every opportunity you can to get involved. Just plan on saying "yes" to everything there is to offer for the first 6 months, and you'll meet more people than you can handle!

You're going to be fine. I think you'll find the folks in Atlanta to be very welcoming and friendly. It's an adventure.
