Most posters here have suggested suburbs, but since you stated that you have no preference (urban/suburban) I'd highly recommend looking ITP (in the perimeter of 285) as well. Brookhaven is an ITP Atlanta suburb, and has access to MARTA within 20-25 min of the airport. Other closer east side neighborhoods in Atlanta such as Grant Park, Old Fourth Ward, Kirkwood, Inman Park, and Candler Park also have MARTA access, and will be anywhere from 15-20 minutes from the airport via train. An eastside ITP suburb, Decatur, is also a great walkable area with MARTA access that probably runs 25 min or so from the airport. In each of these neighborhoods, there is a mix of single family homes and large multi-family apartment complexes or building, so you have a lifestyle choice as well.

I've been to Minneapolis a couple times, and I think the city is very nice, but I could never deal with those long winters. Personally, I think Atlanta is a better city to live in with more to do throughout the year. The extra 10 min on MARTA would be worth it to me to live here versus there. We have a ton of neighborhood festivals from March-November, as well as Farmers Markets through December. January and February are a little slower, but we still have plenty of days more than warm enough for hiking and other outdoor activities. Obviously I'm biased though because I chose to live in Atlanta

Can't really go wrong with either. If your wife's wrks upstairs, you really can't go wrong with either. If she's downstairs....well dress warm. If you and your wife like flying directly to a place then ATL has that over MSP but you really can't go wrong with either (I hear MSP has the better airport though).

I certainly prefer it over ATL. Just my personal opinion.

Oh, and when it does warm up, it's greener than green. Soooo pretty.

Thanks CCATL for your advice. I am going to keep looking for apartments in the above mentioned areas over the next few days. 20-30 minutes of travel time should be okay I guess considering what one gets in the bargain. The fact that I fly frequently, the great weather and that there are plenty of jobs to be had in Atlanta definitely scores good on my deciding factors.

Also consider the culture. If you like the Midwest culture, Minneapolis is your place. If you like a melting pot with no identity, Atlanta is your place.

Minneapolis is also a melting pot... a lot more so than in years past. Not as generic as you'd think. Granted, the MSP metro is not as large as Atlanta, but it's no small town.

So it looks like we'll be moving to Atlanta. We found a good condo in Midtown with just half a mile away from the North Avenue Station. Thanks for your suggestions everyone.

I have a conference there, and luckily it will be in the Spring. Looking forward to seeing it as it is considered to be among the more "liveable" places.
