They have been making quick progress on the "Elan" Little Five / Reynoldstown Mixed-Use Project. All the old houses and trees are gone. They have been doing some very serious earth moving and look like they will be starting on the foundation soon. If you haven't been past there recently, that corner already looks entirely different.

Sounds like they have strong lease interest and will have a good number of restaurants too:

Is it just me or are all of these developments starting to look the same?

Buildings built around the same time usually have very similar styles. That is why many architectural styles often refer to the time period (or at least have a set time period they were commonly used).

Does anyone know if there are going to do something with the power transmission lines that are lining that side of Moreland? I was driving by in the other day and noticed that what would seem to be the most obvious entry point - the light in-between Caroline and Hardee - has an enormous pole right across from the entrance to the Edgewood Shopping Center. The renderings I've seen also seem to imply that the development will come right up to the sidewalk, but that doesn't seem possible with these in the way.

I bet they stay. Georgia Power isn't going to spend millions try to move the wires underground.

I think Georgia Power would be fine with it, but they'll want the businesses and residences on Moreland to foot the bill.

To add on what JSVH said, it can be tough for the developers to do much. Often times, they're beholden to the demands of the banks who finance these projects. Also, your rents dictate how much money you can put into construction and thus design and facade treatments. Then you have certain layouts that need to be maintain to maximize rentable space, meet codes, and get underwritten not to mention, be an appealing piece of property to sell later on.

I can definitely understand the frustration, but as JSVH mentioned, this is just the style right now. In 10-20 years, they'll be something different, and then something different after that. The good thing is we're having an infill renaissance. My only complaint, in certain areas, is the city should be a little bit more demanding in the ground floor retail department. But that's only a slight complaint.
