Anyone else accepted to the Pre-First program?

Does everyone just accept the admission - ever heard of anyone declining it? My husband is discouraged by their "college" output - which I think is crazy, however I can understand.

He mentioned that most kids go to UGA which I knew but I never considered that to be factor.

Thoughts?

The University of Georgia is one of the top public institutions in the South and nothing to be sneezed at. In state, I would think it would rank with Georgia Tech and just under Emory. I know that I am an alumni of their graduate school and may have bias, but The University of Georgia is sought after and would be equal in prestige to Auburn or other flagship institutions across the country.

More to UGA than elsewhere, but not most. 30 out of 200. I think the list of college acceptances is pretty good. But I wouldn't pick a kindergarten to try and get a certain college outcome (not possible), but because it is where you want your child to spend the next 13 years. https://www.westminster.net/ftpimage...on_Profile.pdf

Our youngest was also accepted to Westminster pre-first. Our older son is also there and we have had nothing but great experiences at the school. The reason we are sending our kids to Westminster is because of the great educational opportunities. My husband and I both attended great public schools but honestly we are just blown away by the program at Westminster. Personally our goal is to just have our kids get a great education. At the undergraduate level I am really not that concerned if my kids don't go Ivy. You can get a great education at a state school. I went to a state school for undergrad and then to a top graduate school. I hope you accept the spot! I don't think you will regret it.

Quality early childhood education is very predictive of success later in life according to many recent studies. If people have the money, there's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting your child to have the best education possible.

Nobody said otherwise, but it's definitely a lot of money to spend for those who ultimately end up at UGA.

Westminster is arguably the top prep school in the Southeast. If you feel that your child is a personality fit (e.g., self-motivated, not upset if not #1 at everything), I would absolutely go for it. Most of those who wind up at UGA are probably in the Honors College anyway, which is a world unto itself.

My son graduated from the UGA honors college, and is headed to Stanford this summer to begin a PhD program. We didn't pay for a penny of his education. He went to public school in North Fulton, received the Zell Miller 100% tuition via HOPE, and the PhD program is completely funded.

Unless one is searching for a religion-based elementary education, I don't understand the mindset of paying for private over buying a home in a good school district.

SpecialSan, our child was also accepted to Westminster for pre-first. We have not fully decided yet. Westminster has the best lower school in the city IMO, but I worry about the pressure in the upper school. I don't believe our child would be a stand-out at Westminster and I worry that he would not get the opportunities to shine that he would elsewhere. On the other hand, I would hate to miss out on the amazing lower school opportunity, just to get a foot in the door somewhere else for high school later. . .And I will say that I have many friends and family who went to W and were not stand-outs in high school, but many of them are certainly stand-outs in the community now.
