Is 1500 square feet too small for a family of four in Atlanta? Could any Intown residents reveal the pros and cons?

is it a 3/2? if so, then no. This is a very subjective question. Totally depends on the family.

I agree with Tryska. It's all relative. We grew up with five in about 1200 sf and it seemed okay at the time but I would consider that tight nowadays.

How old are the kids? For example, if we are talking a 2 and 3 year old, that is one thing. If we are talking a 15 and 13 year that is kind of something else.

We've done 4 in about 1000-1200sf. But I agree, it depends on the ages of the kids (ours were both very little at the time.) The layout/design is also crucial. Hobbies/lifestyle...

Gender and temperament may also be factors to consider...

It's a subjective question for HGTV-era Americans but probably would have been ludicrous to pre-1970 Americans.

Pros:
Smaller houses are more likely to be walking distance to interesting places
Smaller houses are more likely to be older, and imo more aesthetically pleasing
Your utilities could be lower
You're more likely to get rid of unnecessary stuff
Kids probably don't care
You probably interact with your family more

I know there are some cons but I live in an only slightly larger house with 4 people and have not yet wished that it was bigger.

We lived very comfortably in our charming mid-century Morrow brick ranch with two kids. It was a 3/2. I will say that having a third was the tipping point. It went from quaint to cramped instantly with the coming of our third child. On Intown housing, perhaps a smaller one with room for expansion. If the the surrounding property values will support it (as is the case in many Intown neighborhoods) it would prove a wise investment. By the way, you will find the biggest problem with most older homes is the lack of closet space. We had several wardrobes to solve this problem.

The kids are young. 2 and 4. Girls. But we expect them to live there until they graduate high school. I guess we could add on by then...
