I tell you, it seems to be the Atlanta Way. Is there another city whose sports teams collectively fail?

Minus LeBron a year and a half ago, Cleveland.

Well, even the Indians are solid and look promising.

You call that a choke? The team played a quarter of their season over the last 5 weeks and gave it EVERYTHING.

NO WAY!!!! There was 23 shots on goal by Atlanta, with 8 shots on target and 12 shots off-target. We won duels and tackles over Columbus, and our passing accuracy was 81%. A hard-fought game that ends up 0-0, goes through another 30 minutes of overtimes, and THEN goes to PKs is NOT a "choke". (For the record, I HATE PKs . . . ) Two great teams put on a wonderful show last night. But, in the end, I think our schedule that crammed soooo many games into the last six weeks was the undoing of our guys. The Columbus keeper was fantastic -- he made some incredible saves (just wish they had been incredible against a different team!)

And this was only their first season! Next year will be even better, especially with a sensibly-spaced season and not this jam-fest where they had to play a game every 3-4 days during September. At this level of soccer, that is extremely wearing. We had 7 games in September. Columbus, on the other hand, had only 4, sensibly spaced a week apart.

It was a fantastically fun season, and even though it didn't go any further, I doubt it has dimmed the fans enthusiasm. Let's face it, if we had won just ONE more game during the regular season, we wouldn't have been in the knock-out round. (What's with the losses to DC United over and over again? The worst team in the Eastern Conference?)

Can't wait for next season!!
