Actually no - never been to Blakes. the pictures I had seen in the scene mags led me to believe they were a little squared away and twinkish for me to feel comfortable. Mary's is more my speed.

I guess that means dress-codes work both ways lol

Seriously though - I get the security stuff, sorta. And also the no thug stuff, if that is what's not being said too. Private property - you can refuse service if you wish.

Is no shirts/ no shoes/ no service, racist against rednecks?

There no speaking to a specific group .. The items on that list mostly are what blacks wear .. The average white male that attends blakes don't dress like that .. Having a dress code isn't going to stop criminals from being robbed .. The break ins over there been happening. Gay men are easy targets

Well, you have to wonder why the letters don't fit the sign.

Blake's says its policy was about was about people hoodies and dark glasses at night so as to make themselves unidentifiable. Hard to argue with that.

Really? I know a few that could kick some serious ass if assaulted.
Now who's stereotyping?

So you have to wonder why this was a laundry list instead of just two or three things.

According to Blake's management they didn't develop this laundry list.

But they approved it to be posted within their establishment so they might as well have developed it.

The writing goes off the paper it is supposedly written on. (See the "No sagging pants" for example).

Also, the writing isn't curved the way the paper is.

The legit pic looks like it was taken at night, a street light shadow from one of the mullions is covering the left edge of the notice. Also, even though the paper is up against the glass, the top looks like it was not cut straight (go figure!) so it seems like the text should be curved.

Whether the dress code is racist is for others to determine, at first blush the list does seem to match many stereotypical wardrobe and accessory items.

It's really not. Plenty of mature men frequent Blake's. If anything, it's a neighborhood bar that caters to a rather diverse crowd. They're great about hosting events for my brother's bowling league, and the average age there is 50.
I'm amused by those on here that are bemoaning the idea that Blake's is allegedly guilty of discrimination but then turn around and try to pigeonhole it as some sort of white elitist twink bar. Such hypocrisy.
