I agree with what you are saying as well; those position were for developers, project managers, technical writers, or pretty much anything but managers.

That certainly ups her odds, but she'd be competing with MBAs. Far be it from me to take joy in kicking a stool out from anyone's feet when they are chasing a dream, but I'm just saying try to keep her a little grounded. She should have some vacation time built up; ask her to set up some interviews and a little vacay to the area.

She needs to be realistic and stay put in Minneapolis IMO.

If she works from home (btw how does he come home for lunch if she works from home?)

Can she just pick up and telecommute from Atlanta, and keep her current job?

Maybe she need to fly back, rent a car/hotel room few times a year.

Ditto...from an I.T. Director.

What I mean by she works from home is that she gets to work from home once or twice a week. On the days she goes into the office, she goes home for a 2 hour lunch....who in this day and age has the luxury of being able to go home for lunch?????????????????

If cold is her only quibble, we do get a bit of snow in winter here, too. It even goes down to the low teens at night on the odd occasion. Certainly (and obviously) not twin cities cold, though.

Wow, nice gig.

Management IT jobs do exist here, but are highly competitive and stressful.

The other IT jobs I often see are consulting gigs that pay by the hour. If you are a top notch programmer, maybe you can earn that if you work a million hours a week (and yes, a lot of these consultants work well over 40 hours, especially if the project timeline is aggressive).

"IT Job" is way too broad a term to distinguish salary. That would be like saying "medical field" these days. Are you a surgeon or a lab tech?

She needs to be sure she is specialized and that her specialty is in demand.

She is not specialized. She's just an IT manager for a county govt agency, gives employees laptops, has a staff of 2, stuff like that.
