How about The Beltline? It wouldn't be overrated if it weren't so crowded. It can get so busy you can barely ride your bike on it in places. It has become a victim of its own success.

Uhh maybe it's crowded because there's like only a portion of it complete and available to the public?

The 7 most overrated places in Atlanta

1. The Varsity
2. World of Coca-Cola
3. Underground
4. Atlantic Station Wellness Wednesdays
5. Lenox
6. Skyview
7. Georgia Aquarium

The Varsity as food is pretty much forgettable. Just visit it once just to say you've done it.
The World of Coca-Cola is like paying to see a commercial. Could be much more interesting.
Underground...just not worth the time.
Atlantic Station wellness...haven't tried it though I'm not into yoga.
Lenox...it's a mall
Skyview, I've seen better ferris wheels.
Didn't much like the Aquarium. But I've seen others and didn't like them much either.

In summation, I agree with the list.
I fail to see how Lenox Square is overrated. Yes, it's a mall. It is also our retail High Street, and somewhat unique.

It's mixed-use, housing a luxury hotel and a Class A office tower. All of it's Department Store anchors and several of it's smaller stores are Flagships. It's across the street from a subway station, two blocks from another and surrounded by thousands of 4 & 5 Star hotel rooms.

There are several cities larger and/or older than Atlanta that anchor major metro's that have little to none of their upscale retail within their City Limits. That isn't the case here.

We have about five or six U.S. cities left that still have thriving Downtown retail districts that serve as the shopping hubs of their entire region. We used to be one of them, but it isn't coming back. Lenox (along with Phipps & BA) has evolved into ours, for better or worse - and it could be much worse.

While many of us wish that Lenox were more urban than it already is with a more mixed-use connection to Peachtree, it is hardly overrated.

The problem I always have with overrated/underrated is that the person making the claim never sets out the initial "rating" that is supposedly the standard to determine. So, calling something "overrated" or "underrated" is often just someone saying "I don't agree with the perception I think a lot of people have about this or that thing."

Yeah PCM is boring and overpriced and the food isn't that good besides the burger joint. All the stores carry overpriced merchandise. I couldn't believe you had to pay to go to the roof. What tourist ripoff. Chelsea Market though narrower has suck a better selection of all types of food at a decent price.

If you want-to/need-to streatch a buck, it's not for you. I am glad it's there, though I don't have much use for it either. It's a cute re-purposing of one of the older buildings in the city--a nice place to wander around occasionally.

Can't speak much for the rest of them, but totally agree with the Varsity. I've been there once or twice - last time I was either in middle school or high school. You feel like you are going to have a heart attack after eating there from all the grease. Granted, I have an allergy to red meat but given how far most of us would have to drive to get there, park, then wait in line...very overrated. And to address the concept of underrated vs overrated, I'd define that as does your actual experience live up to the hype? When you factor in the time it takes to drive there, then costs to park and get in/purchase ticket, is your experience at least worth the time and money to do it? If not, even though it's very hyped = overrated.

I LOVE the Varsity: FO (Frosted Orange) Chili slaw dog onion rings (MMMM!) Not a fan of their burgers, though.

Off topic, but the most under-rated spot is Tybee Island.

The rating came from Travel and Leisure so I don't think that is much of a sell for its readers.
