Looks like Emory has declared war.

You know Piedmont is not going to take this lying down.

Quote:
Emory Healthcare is planning to put a presence on Peachtree Road down the street from its major competitor Piedmont Hospital just as Piedmont is embarking on a giant expansion.

Emory will turn the 7,199-square-foot building at 2200 Peachtree Road into a primary and specialty care clinic, according to Coro Realty Advisors, who leased the building to the health system.

Emory declined comment about the project. This will be its first Buckhead location, and it is on Piedmont’s turf.

“It seems like the gloves are off,” said Michael Rovinsky, director for the Southeast region of health-care consulting firm Veralon. “Up until now, major providers have typically focused on their own geographical turfs. Now Emory appears to be seizing the opportunity to establish a beachhead in Piedmont’s backyard.”

What's Piedmont supposed to do about it?
The whole idea about healthcare systems having 'turf' seems kind of silly. Look at Pill Hill; Northside is slap dab next to St.Joseph's, which is in the Emory system.
Edit: The property is the old Justin's, now Buffalo Wild Wings. A much better utilization of Peachtree Road frontage IMO.

I can just see Emory pulling on one patient's arm and Piedmont pulling on the other arm to get the person inside their respective clinic. No big deal though. Emory is already on Peachtree in Midtown if that matters.

Funny you mention this. Just got a postcard mailer today touting Emory's new offices in PTC and Sharpsburg. I say good!! It's about time Piedmont Physicians Group had some competition. They have a virtual monopoly on healthcare in the Southern suburbs.

Well Piedmont bought one of those off hour emergency clinics on Clairmont near Briarcliff.

Competition in Big Medicine is fierce.

Think about how Emory would feel if Piedmont announced it was building a new specialty clinic in Emory Village.

Sounds like Emory could be in hot water with Trump.

Quote:
A powerful Republican lawmaker aims to cut off state funding to Emory University and any other higher education institution that declares they will defy President-elect Donald Trump if he tries to deport immigrants who are illegally in the U.S.

State Rep. Earl Ehrhart plans to introduce legislation to block colleges from receiving state funds if they aren’t complying with state and federal law in response to the report last week that Emory was weighing whether to declare the school a “sanctuary campus.”

“Private institutions can do what they want, but there are consequences to actions. And it can’t be an option to choose not to follow state and federal laws,” said Ehrhart, a Powder Springs Republican who chairs the House’s higher education financing subcommittee.

“There’s a raft of state taxpayer dollars for private institutions,” he said, “and I’m very sanguine about being able to pass a piece of legislation that says if you’re picking and choosing which laws you’re going to follow, state dollars aren’t going to follow.”

Emory University president Claire Sterk wrote in a letter to students last week that administrators are reviewing their request “for a sanctuary campus and ways to protect all members of the Emory community” and said the school would continue to support undocumented students, known as “Dreamers,” who were granted a temporary reprieve from the threat of deportation by an executive order from President Barack Obama.

Trump's America is just beginning. It is sickening that these people now feel safe enough to be openly discriminatory, with little repercussion.
