We are from So Cal. Is Woodstock GA a good place to retire to? We are looking for a nice community that is friendly and has decent medical services and is walkable. Our children are grown and live in a cold climate so we cannot live in their state as it snows a lot. A nice friendly community is important where neighbors care about one another. would like to get about a 1/4 to 1/2 acre lot so we can build a second garage. We have visited the Atlanta area before and liked it. We haven't been to Woodstock but read good things about it. If you also know anything about Senoia would appreciate that too. Thanks so much

Umm...I think since you plan on retiring in Woodstock, you should at least visit a few times. Seeing something online is different from living it. The reason why I say this is because no one has a clue of what you are expecting. When you say walkable, do you mean stores, restaurants in walking distance? Have you already done a search on homes and costs? Since walking is important to you, I wouldn't stray too far from downtown Woodstock. Then again, the Towne Lake area, from the parts I have seen, are walkable but maybe not grocery store restaurant walkable depending on where you live. As for friendliness, depends on who you ask. I have met some nice people in woodstock, not for friendship though but I have also met some really backwards people. If I had a choice, I would choose to live sonewhere else but that is just me. Maybe people on here can give you more specific information regarding which neighborhoods to luve in and the friendliness of the place. I want to say that the people in the Towne Lake area seem friendly. I say seem because I don't know flr certain if it is that fake friendly I constantly run into in Georgia.haha.

Both Woodstock and Senoia are good places to retire to.

The City of Woodstock is home to a historic village-like downtown area that is very walkable.

Downtown Woodstock is filled with shops, restaurants, theaters, condos, townhomes, upscale apartments, single-family homes and park areas all within a very-walkable pedestrian-friendly village area that continues to rise in popularity. Woodstock has a very nice and growing village-like downtown area that gets rave reviews.

Senoia, down in Coweta County in outer-suburban South metro Atlanta is famous for being the primary shooting and production location for the popular "The Walking Dead" television series.

On some days you may even find the cast and the crew of the show filming episodes and lingering in Senoia's historic village-like downtown and the surrounding area while on their breaks.

Yup, and if I ever take out visitors to see the northern part of Cobb County, I always show them Woodstock's downtown. You would think that Kennesaw has a bigger and more developed downtown but not really much to talk about. I jist show them the mountain and oftentimes skip over their downtown. Woodstock's has a little bit of everything. You generally don't have to worry about safety and people tend to be out and about so it's not like the downrown area is dead.

Yes, Woodstock is a good choice and I think Cherokee County exempts seniors from the school portion of property taxes.

FOr retirement, yes. There is New Adult living neighborhoods popping up everywhere in Woodstock. All over highway 92. It is BOOMING the city of Woodstock and is destined to be one of the premiere suburbs of living, becoming very upscale.

You do realize that none of these areas are going to be a thing like SoCal, though, right?

I think parts of Woodstock would be a good choice. However, you will have to watch the zoning restrictions and neighborhood covenants in terms of adding a second garage.
