Hi!

My husband is interviewing for a position based out of Norcross and we are looking to narrow down potential towns to live in. We are a interracial (black man/white woman) couple with kids in elementary school, one requires special assistance. Schools are really important, as well as, sports - club soccer, basketball, football and lacrosse are big in my family. From what I've read, Suwanee, Lawrenceville, Grayson and Dacula look great on paper. Hoping for a 4 bedroom home (up to $350k) with close to/over 1 acre within 30/40 drive into work.

Any other suggestions to look would be welcome/where to stay away from.

Thanks! :-)

City of Norcross/ Peachtree Corners (especially west of Interstate 85 in the Norcross High district) and even further north up the Peachtree Industrial corridor to the Duluth High School or Peachtree Ridge High district might be a good place to take a look as an option. True, Norcross High doesn't "look quite as good on paper", but it is fairly high performing and is known around Metro Atlanta as being economically, ethnically, and socially diverse. Same with Duluth High School cluster, and if I am not mistaken, Peachtree Ridge High IS a high performing cluster. The new City of Peachtree Corners also has numerous swim and tennis communities, some quite upscale and has access to many shopping options at the Forum, Peachtree Corners. The Norcross area has a variety of housing options (from Downtown "Old Town" Norcross historic district to swim and tennis communities.) I would probably give pause to the portion of the Norcross zip code east of Interstate 85 (Meadowcreek High School cluster) as the schools there usually are not as high performing as other clusters within Gwinnett County Schools.

I would take a look at west of I-85 Norcross and adjacent parts of Peachtree Corners and even the entire southwestern Gwinnett portion of the nearby Peachtree Industrial Corridor from Peachtree Corners to Duluth. Nice community, too, and a better commute! Good Luck and welcome to Metro Atlanta!

Like many other areas of the country, most of the population of Gwinnett County resides outside of the cities in unincorporated areas. But just about the entire county is served by one high school or another. So it might be wise to think of your search by high school. You can often search for homes by school and these high school clusters offer diversity, great sports facilities, award-winning parks, nice properties within your price range, newer stores, eateries and other great lifestyle amenities all within a decent drive of Norcross. You'll be among many other families who are just like yours, so welcome!

• Collins Hill
• Duluth
• North Gwinnett
• Parkview
• Peachtree Ridge

Incidentally, Dacula and Grayson are also good schools, but they may involve more of a commute than you had in mind. Also, did you know that Gwinnett County Public Schools offer transportation to kids in need of special assistance?

From one Connecticut transplant to [potentially] another, welcome to Georgia!

A 30 minute commute from Suwanee to Norcross is very do-able. The thing you're going to have a hard time finding in northern Gwinnett is a 4 bedroom house on even 3/4 of an acre at, or even slightly above, your price point. Its possible, but it may require some additional patience.

Hi Bridgette,
Gwinnett schools offer a lot of options for you. My grandson was borderline autistic with high OCD tendencies, high allergy level, missed a lot school days due to so many issues and the Gwinnett cluster for Archer was a big blessing. Gwinnett commutes vary by day but pick the best school cluster and you will find the neighborhoods are very diverse.
