Just wondering why this law isn't enforced more fully. It was put in place for a reason that many of us encounter every work day, people fiddling with and talking on their phones while cruising in the far left lane of the freeway, completely oblivious to the line of cars behind them, the open road ahead and vehicles passing them on the right.

Left-lane lurkers and the limits of the Slowpoke Law

I'm sure there a 27572819 more things the police have to before ticketing people who hang out in the left lane. It's most pervasive in places where there are 4 or 5+ lanes. I surmise that perhaps people enter the freeway somewhere maybe where it's 2 or three lanes, and they never leave that lane even if they're going 5-10 under everyone else. I really don't encounter it in rural stretches of Interstate.

A lot of people just go straight to the left lane. I cannot count how many times I see someone come down an entrance ramp, then immediately cut across all five lanes to get over to the center lane.

Well then they don't know how to drive. Unless they're passing or going 10 MPH faster than everyone else (which probably means they're shattering the speed limit) they should move over. I can understand not wanting to be in the far right lane because it's a lot of semis and people getting on and off. In that case, increase your speed a little.

Most cases, the cars will get out of the way once they see the cops.

Main issue in the metro is not enough cut outs so it impossible to sit and catch people that way.

GSP does enforce it on GA 316 though.

It happens pretty frequently on the Rural Interstates, some clown will ride side by side with a tractor trailer and hold back lines of cars..super aggravating.

I set cruise control on 70. When I pass, I don't accelerate around someone; I change lanes and continue going 70. I try to time it so that so I'm not pulling out in front of people wanting to go much faster. If vehicles approach, then I'll accelerate to match their speed so I'm not holding people up. I hope I make sense. A picture is truly worth a thousand words.

I prefer to accelerate, pass, get out of the left lane and then return to cruise so that others can get past me. It isn't my passing lane. It belongs to us all and needs to be respected.

I don't like being in the left lane but some places automatically dump you into it.

Cops need to have their presence felt more on the road. It will fix things like this and the host of other bad driving behaviors that is so common on our roads.
