While I guess it's a shame that he went low-rise on Northside & 17th, it preserved my favorite skyline view:

"Look at that view! Why, it's the perfect place for a supermarket! And for good measure, let's throw in a storage facility. People can admire the skyline while they move around their crap."

Yeah, he did us a real big fat favor with that one.

I don't understand what's up with a Kroger being built there- there's literally one a couple blocks north.

Maybe they'll close the old Kroger.

I remember that. The locals fought like crazy to preserve the high density TOD zoning but ultimately the city shot them down.

Is it still being built? I can't find a single article referencing that Kroger that is less than 15 months old, and no site work has been done on the lot in question that I have seen (but I haven't been there in a month or so). And I seem to think that they just remodeled the store on Northside. Maybe it was just the exterior shopping center.

TOD? What transit would it develop around?

It's basically across the street from Lindbergh Station, I think there may be (or used to be) some sort of TOD overlay zoning in place. The store is massive, but you can't see it from Piedmont. It's behind Zesto's and those other small businesses.

If you haven't been down Lindbergh between Piedmont & 85 lately, that gives you a better perspective of what Sembler did. It's unrecognizable.

The area that Fuqua was trying to develop had long been zoned for TOD in connection with the Lindbergh MARTA station. It's the junction of two lines and many bus routes and is arguably the most critical station in the system outside of Five Points.

That zoning had to be overturned to allow the Fuqua project. The neighborhood fought like crazy to keep it high density TOD, but eventually the city sided with Fuqua and went with a more suburban approach.

If there's one person you can point the finger at and say is ruining Atlanta, it's Jeff Fuqua. I'm hoping Madison Yards will be a colossal failure but with the number of yuppies who are moving into Cabbagetown, Reynoldstown, and Grant Park, I wouldn't anticipate it.

Is the title of this thread just a joke, or has Fuqua actually wondered why people hate him?
