I'm fine with this. It frees up all those surface lots for their new hospital campus, and all employees get paid Breeze cards. It's a win-win.

I've been hearing rumblings from friends connected to Emory for over a year that their plans for this development are 'huge.' One that has seen the plans said it will basically be a new neighborhood inserted into the area.

Agree.

I've also heard that they decided on the 18-story tower for the corner of Peachtree and Linden, removing another parking lot from Peachtree. Bravo to Emory for being a great part of the neighborhood and working with the planning department.

This new parking deck and cancer hospital are such a golden opportunity for Emory to start getting involved with transit funding.

Just think of all the employees, patients and visitors who will be using these tax exempt facilities!

Not to mention the MARTA station right there at their campus.
Emory is involved in Clifton Corridor. They donated land for stations, etc. to MARTA.

Ugh. That geometric pattern on that building facade in the first picture hurts my eyes!

Emory buying more property around it's Midtown hospital.

E
mory University is assembling more property around Atlanta’s former Peachtree-Pine Shelter, emerging as the largest catalyst for investment and development in the city’s SoNo district.

The university purchased just under an acre of buildings and parking lots beside the shelter last month for $8 million, according to Fulton County property records. The assemblage includes the former home of the Pleasant Peasant restaurant that Atlanta developer Steve Nygren created.

Emory confirmed the May 23 purchase of 489-495 Peachtree and 496 Courtland Street, in an email to Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Wonder if this includes the building where the Pleasant Peasant was? That was such a groundbreaking place for Atlanta in terms of cuisine and dining styles. I also thought it was one of first places to bring gay and straight people together in large numbers.

I've even heard that Emory's long range plan is to remove All Things Medical (save for pre-med students) from its Druid Hills campus altogether, freeing up the campus for other things. This could have a significant positive impact on traffic in the Clifton Corridor.
I predict that by 2040 SoNo will be virtually unrecognizable.
