For the first time in three decades, there will be no Peach Drop this year, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms told Majic 107.5/97.5’s afternoon host Ryan Cameron Tuesday.

"We're going to take a break, reevaluate, reexamine the location and how we plan it out,” she said. “And when it comes back, I promise you it will be bigger and better...”

The last time I attended the peach drop it was 35 degrees, raining, and I got caught up in a momentary crowd crush. During said crush, some dude decided to cop a feel on me. Along with my initial shock, I turned around to let him know I wasn't the guy he was looking for and perhaps mistook me for someone else. He only grinned widely in the most creepy way possible.

That was almost 15 years ago and I haven't been back since.

I don't understand why they don't do the Peach Drop at Centennial. That'd be the perfect place for it.

I didn't know until this year that that event was funded by the City. It should held by a private organization, like Coca-Cola or Sweetwater.

There’s no Peach Drop this year, but East Atlanta will hold Rooster Drop

East Atlanta Village has hosted its New Year’s Eve Rooster Drop before, but without the city’s Peach Drop this year, the Rooster Drop’s popularity is poised to rise.

Billing itself as “the only ball drop in Atlanta” this year (note: not a real rooster), the event’s organizers are preparing for an influx of interest..."
