Hey, I was just kidding you guys. I hope you know that.

BTW, I did hear Ernie Johnson (TNT) use it awhile back. FWIW.

No, I suspect I simply run around with a crowd that doesn't happen to use that particular term.

Besides, some bits are more fun to twiddle than others.

There ya go. My suspicions have been confirmed. It's a cultural thing, aferall.

I think it's more of an age thing rather than cultural. I think once you hit 35 then start to refer to their cities by the proper name instead of the nickname. The Atl, A-Town, The A, The 404, and Hotlanta are all common nicknames for this town.

I'm 51. Does that make me wrong?

Well, I'm 33 so I have 2 years left to engage in this name-calling.

Seriously, I travel for work a lot so I see ATL a lot...

People started using "the ATL" only in the last 10 or so years. I thought it was a derivative of the slang that became popular with TV show "The OC".

Before that, "Hotlanta" was the only nickname I ever heard used locally.

Here in Portland they say PDX a lot. I refer to Atlanta as ATL or "the A" all the time. I dont see how people in the PNW get off judging you for using that term. Your friends probably listen to too much T.I.

Probably, because they're from Albany/Lebanon. You know them valley folk.
