After paying $455 million to buy the Hearst Tower, Truist likely has a sense of entitlement that they can do whatever they want with the landmark building.

And though Truist did seem to respond to public criticism by turning down the brightness of the night lights on their signs on the Hearst Tower, very few people in Charlotte (a town where ‘money talks’ more than in all but very few other places in the world outside New York) are going to be able to completely stop them with the kind of money that they’re bringing to the table.

It seems to be a somewhat similar situation here in Atlanta, where city leaders likely will be extremely hesitant and probably just outright unwilling to confront Truist about their signage on the top of the 303 Peachtree skyscraper after the multi-billion deal (Winston-Salem based BB&T’s $66 billion acquisition of Atlanta-based SunTrust) that the company was created from and the overall impact that the company has on the Atlanta economy, even after the loss of the SunTrust corporate headquarters.
