I have a cousin that just got hired by Delta. He will be staying with my family for 6 weeks, as Delta has him down here for training/testing (and they don't pay for their hotel or rental car!!!!!!).

All that said, between him and my wife and I, we all really enjoying going out to eat. I'm trying to take him to memorable places, both from a food and an environment standpoint. To a greater degree, we don't mind driving and cost is not a huge factor.

Trying to generate a good list of restaurants to take him to, that either offer a fun experience, unique food/ambiance/neighborhood etc. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, the ideas don't need to be earth shattering.....

The Varsity is always a good experience.

On a fancier note, Beetlecat is a fun restaurant with a cool, 1970s basement vibe in the downstairs bar complete with board games and ambiance.

No ambiance at all, but a great example of how you can find good food in a quirky location is Heirloom BBQ. Creative, excellent Korean BBQ tucked next to a 7-11ish sort of market (Access road on top-end perimeter near the river)

For an “un-fancy” Atlanta experience, I would do Eats before the Varsity. Better food. Better atmosphere. Nice cross-section of Atlanta folks. Still divey—in a nice comfortable way—and you will feel better afterwards—and maybe go to Ponce City Market across the street afterwards for ice cream or gelato or whatever. You are also close to the Beltline—if you want to see what that’s about.

If you like spicy Chinese food—Yummy Spicy on Buford Highway is very good.

I went to the Garden Room. It's a very pretty experience—mostly lowkey with good cocktails before the crowd gets inaudibly louder and visibly younger. Service quality is a tossup, but if cute hip selfies are your goal, get yourself on the months' long waiting list. I was someone's +1 but I wouldn't go out of my own initiative.

edit*ack, sorry I didn't fully read the first post. I wouldn't rec this. Mmm, I'd say Marcel!!

Bacchanalia is forever on my list to impress newcomers. If you don’t mind the $.

My short list would also include Little Alley Steak in Roswell (Canton Street).

Perhaps Miller Union. And Antico Pizza. Maybe Empire State South.

Eater Atlanta is good inspiration too: https://atlanta.eater.com/maps/38-be...nts-in-atlanta

There is some BBQ to be had in Atlanta. In my neighborhood, it would be Fox Brothers or Community Q.

https://atlantabg.org/
Park at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, wander around in there, and eat in the Longleaf.
You might wait for the spring flowers to come up.

Park at the Gardens and walk down the Beltline to Ponce City Market (PCM) and eat everything in there. Walk it off on the way back. You could park at PCM if you want to have less fun.
Or park at the Gardens (or PCM) and walk the Beltline down to Krog Street market - there are places to eat in there and you'll be walking by and smelling cooking at some good restaurants on the way.
