Hello All...I will be moving my family to the Atlanta area before the ending of summer....Our home search has been left my husband and I pulling at our hair because we can't find a neighborhood that has all that we need.

Could anyone give us some information on nice places to live in or near Atlanta? Nice neighborhoods, good schools, shopping and close to public transportation...We are self employed so we will be making frequent trips to Atlanta, so some place with a good commute time to Atlanta...not too rural, but not too urban either...I realize that this may be asking a bit much, but hopefully there is such a place...btw...we are looking to spend about 100k-175k...Also interested in areas with Lease Purchase properties.

Thanks in advance to all.

Default Hmmm

That's a tough home budget - you may be able to find something in Kennesaw/Marietta (in the nicer parts, but it will be a small home) - no matter where you live your commute will not be fun, so get ready for that. Get a satellite radio, is all I can say. But, those areas are at least mostly a hwy 75/575 shot... does anyone agree or have a better suggestion?

I live in Towne Lake/Woodstock (where you could find a nice house in my neighborhood for $175k), but the ATL commute would be rough..

Chamblee/Clairmont Hills>>>

Contact Keller Williams midtown office/Rick Case.

The houses are closer to $200-275,000 but he might suggest other options.

(I do not know or work for Rick Case of Keller Williams--I read a flyer/sign --looking myself and this is what I know to suggest right this minute--in case a Moderator wonders...)

You don't need to go in Cumming: racist town, racist children in schools, old racist natives and they will let u know, if you are not white and work in what was traditionally a white position.

That might have been true 25 years ago (when Cumming was infamous for racism)...the Cumming area has changed big time since then. It's becoming suburbanized rapidly, and the average Joe that you meet on the streets there will likely be white-collar, affluent and from somewhere else. The 'old time' Cummingians have pretty much died off or disappeared in the crowd.

Given your budget, and your flexibility with regards to location, I think that the further out you get out of the city the more you're going to get for the money. I would look at:
Carrollton
Social Circle
Cedartown
Monroe
McDonough

Thank you all for your advice....We will be visiting Atlanta for about a week to check out as many of the suggested areas as possible.

Since you asked to me near public transportation, I would say South Fulton or Lithonia and Decatur.
